Reabsorption in the urinary system
WebAldosterone increases the reabsorption of sodium in the distal tubules of the nephrons in the kidneys, and water follows this reabsorbed sodium back into the blood. If adequate fluids are not consumed, dehydration results and a person’s body contains too little water to function correctly. WebNearly all potassium ions in the filtrate are reabsorbed in the proximal convoluted tubule and ascending nephron loop. Therefore, almost all potassium in the urine is derived from active tubu-lar secretion into the last portions of the distal con-voluted tubule and collecting ducts. This secretion is controlled by aldosterone.

WebJan 3, 2024 · In this module, we turn our attention to the urinary system and specifically to the functions of the kidney, a filter of the blood. The kidney is a complicated organ whose actions integrate with those of the cardiovascular system to maintain blood pressure and with the respiratory system to maintain acid-base balance. WebDuring tubular reabsorption, cells of the tubule reabsorb almost all water and a variety of solutes from the filtrate as it flows through the renal tubule and collecting duct. These …
